Belo Horizonte private school teachers suspend strike

Private school teachers in Belo Horizonte and the surrounding region have voted to suspend their strike, with activities set to resume following an assembly on Tuesday. The decision follows a ruling by the Regional Labor Court (TRT), which recognized the legitimacy of the strike.

Despite the suspension, teachers rejected a proposal from school owners to modify the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. The proposed changes included ending salary parity and altering compensation for reduced workloads. Additionally, educators rejected a plan to split the agreement into separate categories for basic and higher education, arguing it would weaken collective bargaining power.

A new strike has been approved for November, coinciding with the scheduled TRT judgment regarding the ongoing negotiations and demands.
