Minas Gerais aviation accidents claim four lives in two separate crashes

Two separate aviation accidents occurred in Minas Gerais on Friday, October 9, resulting in four deaths.

In Santana do Paraíso, near the Vale do Aço Regional Airport, a Beechcraft Super King Air 300 (Pegasus 17) operated by the Minas Gerais Military Police (PMMG) crashed during a mandatory periodic training flight. The accident killed three highly experienced officers: Lieutenant Colonel Luis Fernando Silvestre, Lieutenant Gabriela Emília Soares Lacerda Resende—the first woman in the PMMG to be qualified as a fixed-wing pilot—and Lieutenant Alice dos Santos Almeida. The Minas Gerais government has declared three days of official mourning for the fallen officers.

Earlier that day in Belo Horizonte, an Embraer EMB-711ST (PT-VHE) belonging to Bello Fruit crashed in the maintenance yard of the Belo Horizonte Metro in the São Gabriel neighborhood. The pilot, 31-year-old Daniel da Silva de Souza Salomão, was the sole occupant and died in the impact. The aircraft struck a warehouse and electrical wiring before falling onto the metro tracks.

The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) and the Civil Police are investigating the causes of both incidents.
