Belo Horizonte to change carnival parade dates starting in 2027

Starting in 2027, the parade carnival in Belo Horizonte will change its schedule. The samba schools and caricature blocks will move their parades to the weekend following the Carnival holiday, specifically between February 12 and 14.

This decision was reached through dialogue between Belotur, samba schools, and caricature blocks. According to Maria Elisa, representative of the Liga das Escolas de Samba de Minas Gerais, the shift aims to reduce competition for media attention, audiences, and commercial opportunities with the major carnivals in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. By establishing a unique date, organizers hope to provide more prominence to Belo Horizonte's samba schools.

However, Juólison Mangabeira, president of the Independent League of Caricature Blocks, noted that the change could impact the dynamics of volunteer work, as many participants balance their roles in the associations with regular employment. He also called for better promotional policies to ensure public attendance for the new dates.
