Belveder roundabout roadworks cause traffic congestion

Roadworks at the Belveder roundabout between Jagodje and Valeta have resumed, bringing back partial closures, traffic lights, and alternating one-way traffic. While construction was temporarily halted in June due to congestion, work is now scheduled to continue until October 26.

The Gibanje Svoboda movement has responded to the resumption of work by submitting an initiative to Piran Mayor Andrej Korenika, suggesting that construction requiring traffic restrictions be carried out at night to minimize disruption. They noted that long queues are forming, causing residents and commuters to lose significant time.

Member of Parliament Meira Hot has also addressed the issue, contacting Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Jernej Vrtovec to request improvements in traffic flow and shorter construction durations. Hot highlighted that traffic jams are spilling over onto local roads between Izola and Strunjan. She urged authorities to monitor traffic conditions in real-time and suggested using additional teams, extended working hours, or night shifts to expedite the project's completion.
