Several major surfing events and records are making headlines. In Nazaré, Portugal, Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa is a finalist for the Red Bull Big Wave Challenge 2026. His wave, estimated at 29.15 meters, could potentially reclaim the Guinness World Record from Sebastian Steudtner if the official measurement is confirmed in California.

In Niterói, the Itacoatiara Big Wave 2026 has been confirmed for August 25 at Itacoatiara Beach. The competition will feature elite athletes, including Pedro Scooby and Lucas Chumbo, and will utilize a new specialized judging software for tow-in surfing.

In Ubatuba, the 2026 Ubatuba Pro Surf season has commenced at Praia Grande. Guilherme Fernandes and Maeva Guastalla secured the first titles of the season in the Men’s and Women’s Pro categories, respectively.

Additionally, Saquarema is hosting the Kneeboard Surfing World Championship, featuring approximately 68 athletes from 12 different countries, marking the first time the event has been held in Latin America since 2002.
