Ben Affleck reflects on career lows and Justice League production
In a recent appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, actor Ben Affleck reflected on various milestones and challenges in his career. He described the production of the 2017 film ‘Justice League’ as the “lowest point” of his career. Affleck cited several reasons for this, including personal struggles with alcohol and divorce, as well as the chaotic production environment caused by conflicts between Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder.
Affleck criticized the studio's decision to replace Snyder with Joss Whedon following the tragedy of Snyder's daughter's death, suggesting that the studio used the tragedy as an excuse to take control of the film's direction. He described the resulting reshoots and the atmosphere on set as “disgusting” and “repugnant.”
Additionally, Affleck discussed other career decisions, such as declining an opportunity to direct ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ because he felt he was not the right person for the massive franchise. He also expressed openness to returning to the role of Daredevil if approached by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. On a more personal note, he shared that during his early rise to fame, he spent three years largely at home playing ‘StarCraft’.
