Ben Carroll admits to accidental petrol drive-off
Victorian Premier Ben Carroll has admitted to accidentally driving away from a petrol station in Airport West without paying for fuel. The incident occurred on a Monday night while Carroll was running personal errands, including returning a pencil case for his daughter’s friend.
Carroll stated that he realized the error the following day and returned to the service station on Tuesday night to settle the bill. He attributed the oversight to a busy schedule and human error, noting, “It shows that politicians are human beings and even premiers make mistakes.”
The matter was brought to the Premier's attention after Victoria Police contacted the Department of Parliamentary Services. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush clarified that such incidents are typically treated as civil matters unless intent to avoid payment can be proven.
