Ben Conken, University of West Florida linebacker, dies at 20

Ben Conken, a 20-year-old linebacker for the University of West Florida Argonauts, has died following a battle with cancer. Conken was a member of the university’s 2024 recruiting class.

Although his illness prevented him from appearing in a game for the university, the athletic department noted that he remained actively involved and continued to support the team throughout his medical treatment. UWF Athletics released a statement honoring him, declaring that he will “forever remain a member of this team and an Argo for life.”

Before joining the University of West Florida, Conken was a standout multi-sport athlete at Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama. During his senior football season, he recorded 85 tackles, 10 sacks, and five forced fumbles. Coaches and teammates have shared tributes, remembering him as a dedicated competitor and a resilient individual.
