Ben Simmons suffers season-ending Achilles tear

Ben Simmons, guard for the Sacramento Kings, has suffered a season-ending injury after tearing his right Achilles tendon during a practice session. The injury occurred on Sunday, October 18, just three days before the Kings were scheduled to open their season against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Simmons, a three-time NBA All-Star and former number one overall draft pick, had recently signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Sacramento following a year-long absence from the league. He had shown promising form during training camp and preseason games, including a recent performance against the San Antonio Spurs where he recorded 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.

An MRI confirmed the tear, and Simmons is expected to undergo surgery. In a social media statement, Simmons expressed determination, stating, “This injury is another chapter in my journey, not the end of my story.” The setback marks a significant blow to the Kings' rebuilding efforts and Simmons' attempt at an NBA comeback.
