Ben Simmons responds to Patrick Beverley's NBA comeback criticism
Ben Simmons and Patrick Beverley have engaged in a public dispute following Simmons’ signing with the Sacramento Kings. The disagreement began after Beverley criticized Simmons on his podcast, suggesting that Simmons “quit” the game and was being “gifted” an opportunity to return to the NBA after a year away.
Beverley argued that players such as Victor Oladipo, who have been actively competing in the G League and working out for teams, deserved the opportunity more than Simmons. In response via Instagram, Simmons defended his return, stating, “I played two years not physically right. This ain't no hand out. I worked my ass off to be in this position.” He expressed gratitude for the chance to play and accused critics of making up stories for their own benefit.
Simmons, who has not played in an NBA game since April 2025, signed a one-year veteran minimum deal with the Kings. The move is intended to provide depth and versatility for head coach Doug Christie as the team prepares for the 2026-27 season.
