Ben Simmons signs non-guaranteed one-year deal with Sacramento Kings

Ben Simmons has signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Sacramento Kings worth up to $3.5 million. Under the terms of the deal, Simmons will earn $1 million if he successfully makes the team’s opening-night roster. The 30-year-old veteran, a former three-time All-Star, is attempting an NBA comeback after sitting out the entire 2025-26 season.

David Patrick, Simmons’ former coach and godfather, noted that the extended time away from the league may have provided a “new lease on life,” suggesting the player appears healthier and more confident. The Kings are utilizing Simmons to provide veteran size, passing, and defensive versatility, while simultaneously preparing rookie Darius Acuff Jr. as a primary piece for the team's future.

The signing adds significant depth to a Sacramento roster that includes players such as Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and Keegan Murray. However, the influx of talent raises questions regarding the team's long-term roster construction and how they will manage rotational minutes among their 16 current players.
