Ben Simmons signs one-year deal with Sacramento Kings
Ben Simmons has agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Sacramento Kings, marking his return to the NBA after sitting out the entire 2025-26 season due to chronic back and leg injuries.
The 30-year-old Australian, a former number one overall pick and three-time All-Star, will serve as a versatile defender and backup point guard for rookie Darius Acuff Jr. The Kings' decision follows the departure of DeMar DeRozan and the retirement of Russell Westbrook as the team seeks to rebuild after a 22-60 season.
Simmons reportedly impressed Kings general manager Scott Perry and head coach Doug Christie during workouts and medical evaluations. While interest was noted from the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors, Simmons ultimately signed with Sacramento to restart his career.
