Ben Stokes faces ECB hurdles over potential PSL and MLC deals
Former England Test captain Ben Stokes is reportedly in discussions with franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Major League Cricket (MLC) regarding participation in upcoming seasons. However, these potential deals face significant hurdles due to the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) being reluctant to grant the required No Objection Certificates (NOC).
Although Stokes' central contract with the ECB is expected to expire by the end of September 2026 following his international retirement, he remains registered with Durham County. Under regulations updated in November 2024, the ECB can deny NOCs to domestically registered players if overseas franchise tournaments overlap with the English domestic season.
Stokes is understood to be prioritizing his commitments to Durham, particularly in the County Championship. The MLC is tentatively scheduled for June-July, which would create a direct conflict with the English domestic schedule, including the Vitality Blast and the County Championship.
