Ben Stokes signs with Adelaide Strikers for Big Bash League season

Former England captain Ben Stokes has signed a one-year deal with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL|16) season. The 35-year-old all-rounder, who retired from international cricket in June 2026, is expected to be available for the entire tournament, including the finals.

Stokes' contract is reportedly valued at approximately $500,000. The Strikers secured his services after aggressive pursuit, edging out interest from the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades. Adelaide Strikers head coach Tim Paine indicated that the team plans to utilize Stokes as an opening batter, noting that Australia’s pacy and bouncy pitches are well-suited to his aggressive playing style.

In addition to his batting role, Stokes is expected to contribute with both ball and leadership. Paine described Stokes as a “terrific ambassador for cricket” and a “proven match-winner,” expressing confidence that his presence will boost both the team's performance and fan engagement at the Adelaide Oval.
