Ben Swift announces retirement after 18-year cycling career

Professional cyclist Ben Swift has announced his retirement from the sport after an 18-year career. The 38-year-old Yorkshire native, currently riding for Ineos, stated on social media that he has decided to end his career on his own terms.

Swift’s career includes a world track title in 2012 and notable road performances, such as podium finishes at Milano-Sanremo in 2014 and 2016. His professional journey began in 2009 with Team Katusha, followed by stints with Sky Procycling, UAE Team Emirates, and Ineos.

To conclude his career, Swift plans to participate in several significant events, including the Tour of Britain, which he described as his home race. He also intends to return to Italy, where he spent his early professional years in Tuscany, before his final race at Paris-Tours.
