Benahavís wildfire results in one fatality
A 78-year-old man has died following a wildfire that broke out on September 13 near the Ermita del Rosario in Benahavís, Málaga. The man, who was of Jordanian origin, reportedly attempted to protect his home from the flames and sustained external burns covering between 30% and 35% of his body.
After being initially treated at the Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga, he was transferred to the burns unit at the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, where he passed away.
The fire necessitated the preventative evacuation of approximately 50 residents from the Montemayor residential area, as well as measures in La Coja and Benahavís Hills. In addition to the fatality, the incident resulted in three other injuries, including a firefighter who suffered a fractured wrist and two individuals treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was declared extinguished on Monday, the same day the man died.
