Monterrey gas explosion kills one, injures several in residential blaze

A gas accumulation explosion struck a residence on Macario Pérez 527 in the Buenos Aires colonia of Monterrey, Nuevo León, severely burning a 23‑year‑old Cuban man, Erick, whose body was covered in burns. A dog in the home also suffered burns and was taken to an animal‑care center. Emergency services—including Protection Civil, local firefighters, police and medical teams—evacuated a nearby house, provided cooling and safety checks, and treated the injured at a university hospital.

A separate incident at the same location later resulted in two more victims: a man with extensive burns and an 86‑year‑old woman with serious limb injuries, both taken to medical care. The fire also caused extensive property damage, destroying the house and damaging adjacent structures. Authorities issued safety recommendations to regularly inspect gas installations, ensure proper ventilation, and avoid using open flames near gas lines.

The combined events highlight the risks of gas leaks in residential settings and the coordinated response of Monterrey’s emergency services.
