Benalmádena lifeguards launch beach clean-up and coastal paddleboard mission

Three lifeguards from Benalmádena, Victor Lopez Ruz, Aleksandar Levok, and Mateo Castelloti, have launched a two-part initiative to address beach pollution and raise awareness about maritime safety.

The first phase involves a community beach clean-up scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at Playa Fuente de la Salud in Benalmádena. The second phase, set for Saturday, October 10, is a more strenuous physical challenge where the trio will travel over 40 kilometers along the coastline between Benalmádena and Marbella using a rescue paddleboard and two kayaks to collect plastic waste from the water.

The initiative was prompted by increasing complaints from residents and tourists regarding the state of Malaga’s beaches. The organizers also aim to highlight water safety, noting that the Real Federación Española de Salvamento y Socorrismo recorded 43 drowning deaths in Andalusia between June and August, while the Benalmádena team performed nearly 200 rescues during that same period.
