Benamejí's 'La Duquesa' draws full houses for weekend performances

The town of Benamejí in Córdoba staged two sold‑out performances of the biennial spectacle “La Duquesa de Benamejí” on Friday and Saturday. The production, based on the work of Antonio and Manuel Machado, transformed the municipal bullring into a large‑scale theatrical setting that combined theatre, music, flamenco, dance, folklore and horses. Around 2,000 spectators attended the two shows, and more than 200 local artists from eleven cultural collectives participated.

Mayor Carmen Lara praised the event as a “tourist and cultural product of the highest level,” noting its recent recognition as the best tourist product in the province. Director José Luna highlighted the community‑driven nature of the show, which renews local traditions and preserves intangible heritage each summer.
