Philippine Air Force pilots killed in mid-air collision

Four Philippine Air Force pilots died following a mid-air collision between two SF-260 trainer aircraft on Friday, October 23, 2026. The accident occurred at approximately 3:51 p.m. during a low-altitude training flight at Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas.

Both aircraft crashed within the military base perimeter. Authorities confirmed that there were no other casualties or injuries reported on the ground. The Philippine Air Force has temporarily grounded its entire fleet of SF-260 aircraft as a precautionary measure while a formal investigation is conducted to determine the exact cause of the collision.

The SF-260 is a single-engine propeller aircraft manufactured by Italy, used primarily for basic pilot training. This incident marks the third fatal accident involving this specific aircraft model in the Philippines in recent years, following similar crashes in May 2026 and 2023.
