Benasque urban project denounced as speculative by CHA

The political organization CHA Alto Aragón has denounced a proposed urban development project in Benasque, which involves the construction of 1,162 homes across 33.5 hectares near the cable car area. The group argues that the project follows a speculative model that prioritizes tourism and real estate expansion over the actual needs of the local population.

José Ramón Ceresuela stated that the development is linked to large-scale tourism infrastructure and will significantly transform the valley. CHA warned that Benasque is already struggling with housing accessibility, mobility, natural resource management, and landscape conservation. The organization expressed concern that the project lacks provisions for affordable housing for local residents and workers, while potentially exacerbating existing issues with public services, waste collection, water supply, and electricity and telephone connectivity.
