Bence Szabó claims dismissal amid Hungarian diplomatic reshuffle

Two-time Olympic champion Bence Szabó claims he has been dismissed from his role in sports diplomacy without explanation. Szabó stated that he was instructed to return his diplomatic passport despite preparations for a four-year assignment in Havana. He characterized the move as being fired without justification.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded by stating that a restructuring of diplomatic representations is currently underway. The ministry noted that the process aims to build a professional diplomatic corps and involves renewing a significant portion of mission leaders. This restructuring follows an investigation of over 100,000 documents, which resulted in the revocation of 1,400 diplomatic passports due to suspected abuses.
