Bence Szalay reveals decade-long struggle with alcoholism

Hungarian actor Bence Szalay has revealed his decade-long struggle with alcoholism. During an appearance on the show ‘Celeb vagyok, ments ki innen!’, the 33-year-old actor shared that his addiction began during his university years and intensified following his sudden rise to fame in the film ‘A Viszkis’.

Szalay described himself as a hedonist who used alcohol as an escape to numb tension and unresolved problems. He admitted that at his lowest points, he would consume up to three bottles of wine alone every evening, eventually progressing to hard spirits. He emphasized that he never consumed alcohol while working.

Driven by a desire to protect his health and his goal of starting a family, Szalay has been completely sober for eight months. He noted that sobriety has forced him to confront and resolve issues directly rather than attempting to drown them in alcohol.
