Bence Venyercsán loses silver medal at European Athletics Championships

Hungarian race walker Bence Venyercsán lost a potential silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham due to a refereeing decision. During the men's marathon race walk, the 30-year-old athlete received three warnings, which resulted in a mandatory four-minute penalty during the final kilometer.

Venyercsán had been leading the field for a significant portion of the race. While Italian athlete Massimo Stano took the lead at the 38-kilometer mark, Venyercsán remained in contention for a podium finish until the final stages. Following the penalty, several competitors overtook him, and he ultimately finished in sixth place.

Massimo Stano won the event, followed by López in second place and Aurélien Quinion in third. Other Hungarian participants in the event included Norbert Tóth, who finished 11th, and Máté Helebrandt, who finished 16th.
