Silver Rail Elementary school shooting investigation expands

On October 15, a 16-year-old former student, Griffin John II, opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. The attacker targeted a special needs classroom, killing three male students, aged 5, 8, and 11, and a 25-year-old teacher. Two other individuals, including a student and a teacher, were wounded during the attack.

Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old father whose daughters attend the school, fatally shot the gunman after witnessing him firing at a vehicle and a person on the school grounds. Giamanco described entering the building to stop the violence, noting he heard children pleading for their lives.

Federal investigators are currently exploring whether the shooter was radicalized by the 764 cult, an international extremist network described by authorities as a nihilistic violent extremist enterprise. Additionally, reports indicate the shooter's father, Griffin Jay John Sr., has a significant criminal history and was located by police in Astoria, Oregon, following the incident.
