Bendel Insurance faces defeat despite record-breaking goal

Bendel Insurance striker Kayode Oke scored the fastest goal of the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, finding the net just 18 seconds into a Matchday 8 fixture against Sporting Lagos. Despite Oke's rapid strike at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Bendel Insurance suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Sporting Lagos secured the comeback victory with goals from Victor Samuel and Gafar Olaniyan. Prior to the match, Bendel Insurance had confirmed the return of goalkeeper Joshua Baba. Baba had previously been declared absent without official leave (AWOL) after failing to report back to the club following an injury recovery period, but he rejoined the team in Lagos ahead of the encounter.
