Bendel Insurance targets NPFL title to end 47-year wait

Bendel Insurance chairman Jarrett Tenebe has expressed confidence that the club can secure its first Nigeria Premier Football League title in 47 years during the 2026/27 season. The club, also known as the Benin Arsenals, last won the topflight title in 1979.

Tenebe attributed the club's recent improvement to new recruitment strategies and financial incentives for players. He noted that after taking over when the team was at the bottom of the table, he introduced monetary rewards for every goal scored, which helped the team finish fifth in each of the last two seasons.

Bendel Insurance is scheduled to begin its campaign on Sunday, August 30, against Warri Wolves at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
