Benedetto Croce's legacy of fighting urban speculation highlighted

A recent commentary highlights the legacy of philosopher and politician Benedetto Croce, specifically focusing on his historical opposition to urban speculation. While a delegation from Casamicciola recently participated in the National Benedetto Croce Culture Prize in Pescasseroli to establish a friendship pact, critics suggest more should be done to honor his specific intellectual battles.

New research by historian Alessandra Caputi, titled ‘In nome del Paesaggio’, documents the legal struggles of the Croce family against urban speculation between 1957 and 1967. The work underscores the commitment of Croce’s daughter, Elena Croce, and her colleagues to preserving historic centers in Naples and Salerno, as well as protecting archaeological sites.
