Benelli introduces M2-G1 gas-operated tactical shotgun

Benelli has introduced the M2-G1, a new semi-automatic tactical shotgun that marks a departure from the company’s traditional inertia-driven systems. Unlike the original M2, which utilized an inertia system, the M2-G1 employs a Rear Piston Operated (RPO) gas system. This design uses dual short-stroke pistons positioned close to the chamber to capture gas at the source, aiming to reduce internal fouling and maintenance requirements.

The M2-G1 is positioned as a more affordable alternative to Benelli’s M4 platform. While it lacks the self-regulating ARGO system found in the M4, testing indicates the RPO system maintains reliability in dusty conditions. The shotgun features 12-gauge, 3-inch chamber capacity, M-Lok slots, and ghost-ring sights. It is noted that the platform is not rated for light target loads under 1 1/8-ounce and 1200 fps.
