Mexican and Argentine Initiatives Advance Disability Inclusion Policies

The Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) hosted an internal colloquium on inclusion and disability, presenting work of six groups drafting an institutional guide and proposing a Disability Committee. In Michoacán, Deputy Nalleli Pedraza Huerta introduced a reform that creates the Instituto Estatal para la Autonomía y Vida Independiente (IEVI), expands the definition of disability discrimination and coordinates budgeting across state agencies. The Buenos Aires provincial council on disability met to assess challenges such as the Unique Disability Certificate and multimodal access, reaffirming its role amid a difficult national backdrop. The Congress of Nayarit held a forum that incorporated people with disabilities into legislative work, proposing measures on health, education, labor rights, accessibility and assistance‑animal policies. Additionally, Deputy Greece Jennifer Aguilar Mercado called for constitutional recognition of the right to care in Michoacán, aiming to establish a State Care System that would benefit children, elders and persons with disabilities. Together these actions illustrate a growing legislative focus on disability inclusion across Mexico and in Argentine provincial policy.
