Bener Meriah initiates reconstruction of Lame suspension bridge
The Bener Meriah Regency government in Aceh is set to rebuild the Lame suspension bridge in Lame Village, Syiah Utama District. The project is prioritized to reconnect Lame Village and Payung Village, restoring vital distribution routes for agricultural products such as rice, corn, and betel nut that were disrupted by previous disasters.
The construction is funded by a Rp1.8 billion special inter-regional financial assistance grant from the Pematangsiantar City Government. The project entered the contracting phase in October 2026, with work scheduled to begin in November and a target completion date in December 2026.
In nearby Buntul Gayo, residents continue to face significant logistical challenges due to severed road access. The lack of direct routes to Pondok Baru and the regency center forces commuters and farmers to take alternative paths that add approximately two hours to travel times. This disruption has impacted the distribution of coffee, chili, and avocado, with farmers receiving lower prices locally due to increased transportation costs compared to central trading hubs.
