Benfica advances to League Cup final four after 4-1 win over Gil Vicente

SL Benfica secured a place in the 2026/27 League Cup final four following a 4-1 victory against Gil Vicente at the Estádio da Luz. Dodi Lukebakio led the performance with two goals, including an acrobatic strike, while Sudakov and Jhon Durán also found the net for the Lisbon side.

Gil Vicente managed a goal through Andreas Lausen, but it was not enough to stop Benfica's momentum. The victory sets up a semi-final clash between Benfica and FC Porto in Leiria this January. The tournament's other semi-final will feature Sporting CP against Famalicão.

Following the match, Benfica coach Marco Silva defended the inclusion of Jhon Durán, addressing controversy regarding the player's eligibility after a previous expulsion. Gil Vicente coach Luís Pinto expressed concerns regarding the seriousness of disciplinary decisions in Portuguese football, specifically regarding the reinstatement of suspended players.
