Benfica overtakes Sporting in Portuguese league squad value
Recent market value revisions by Transfermarkt show a shift in the hierarchy of Portuguese football club squad values. Benfica has overtaken Sporting CP to become the second most valuable squad in the I Liga, with a total valuation of 422 million euros. This follows a 50 million euro increase in Benfica's overall market value, driven significantly by Gianluca Prestianni, whose valuation doubled from 20 million to 40 million euros.
FC Porto remains the most valuable squad in the league, valued at 470.50 million euros. While Porto saw a valuation increase of 14.2 million euros, Sporting CP's squad value decreased by 5 million euros, a decline attributed to the departure of key assets during the summer transfer window.
Other notable individual value increases include Sporting's Flávio Gonçalves, who rose from 2.2 million to 15 million euros, and Geny Catamo, who increased from 10 million to 35 million euros. At FC Porto, players such as Kiwior, Gabri Veiga, and William Gomes each saw 5 million euro increases.
