Liga Portugal draws 2026/27 schedule with detailed match‑up restrictions
The Portuguese professional leagues announced the draw for the 2026/27 season on 2 July 2026. The federation released a set of conditions intended to balance security, geography and competitive fairness. Teams that host matches against any of the three best‑average clubs over the past three seasons (Sporting CP, FC Porto, SL Benfica, SC Braga or FC Famalicão) are barred from having the other two clubs visit Gil Vicente or FC Famalicão in the same round. Similar restrictions apply when those top clubs play at home against each other, preventing certain opponents such as Estrela da Amadora or Estoril Praia from being visitors.
The rules also aim to avoid consecutive home or away fixtures involving the five historically highest‑ranked teams, and to keep clubs qualified for UEFA competitions from meeting island teams (Nacional, Marítimo, Santa Clara) or each other in the first four matchdays. Additional guidelines address the alignment of first‑half and second‑half rounds, ensuring a mirrored schedule. Opening fixtures include Sporting beginning away at Estrela da Amadora, Benfica hosting its first game, and other clubs such as FC Porto and SC Braga receiving their initial assignments under the new constraints.
