Bengaluru Announces ‘Freedom Habba’ Celebration as Road Debris Issues Prompt Public Outcry

Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda unveiled ‘Freedom Habba’, a citizen‑led Independence Day festival that will turn the Vidhana Soudha complex and surrounding roads into a cultural corridor showcasing the diversity of Karnataka and the city’s migrant communities. The event, scheduled from the official ceremony at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground through 10 p.m. on 15 August, will feature community parades, performances, regional cuisines, and for the first time open the legislative hall to children.

Separately, business leader Mohandas Pai highlighted a problem with the city’s footpath clearance drive, posting images of newly laid tar littered with debris left by contractors. He urged the Bengaluru Development Authority (GBA) to enforce stricter clean‑up standards, noting that the practice hampers pedestrian movement and vehicle flow across multiple locations.

Both stories reflect ongoing civic initiatives in Bengaluru, ranging from large‑scale cultural celebrations to concerns over urban infrastructure maintenance.
