Bengaluru: Couple's bodies found after gas cylinder explosions
The bodies of a couple, identified as 27-year-old Akash Basavaraj and 24-year-old Nagarathna, were discovered on Monday in a building in Kammagondanahalli, Bengaluru. The discovery occurred two days after a massive fire and series of explosions involving more than 20 gas cylinders at an illegal gas refilling and lubricant shop.
Police believe the couple, who worked at a nearby petrol bunk, may have died from suffocation after becoming trapped by thick smoke while attempting to escape the blaze. Their remains were found on the first floor of the building during debris clearance after reports of a foul smell prompted a secondary inspection.
The fire, which broke out on Saturday night, was reportedly triggered by a gas leak during an illegal cylinder-refilling operation. The presence of flammable substances, including petrol and kerosene, intensified the blaze. Gangammagudi police have registered a case regarding the incident.
