Bengaluru court issues notices to social media platforms over murder trial videos

The 59th Sessions Court in Bengaluru has issued direct notices to major social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X, regarding the unauthorized circulation of videos from the Renukaswamy murder case proceedings.

The court ordered the removal of videos depicting the proceedings and directed police to initiate legal action, including contempt of court charges, against individuals found recording or disseminating live trial content. This action follows reports of social media influencers and YouTubers uploading portions of proceedings involving Pradosh S. Rao, an accused-turned-approver in the high-profile case involving Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa.

Previously, such matters were typically managed by police through individual notices to platforms. This latest order marks a direct judicial intervention to prevent the unauthorized dissemination of sensitive court material.
