Bengaluru Court Orders Meta to Remove AI-Generated Defamatory Posts Targeting BJP MLC C. T. Ravi

A Bengaluru civil court issued an interim injunction directing Meta Platforms Inc. to delete Facebook and Instagram posts that allegedly used artificial intelligence to create defamatory images, videos, memes and text about Karnataka Legislative Council member C. T. Ravi. The court also barred further publication of the material and ordered preservation of related URLs, metadata and logs.

The suit, filed by Ravi, names 15 respondents including the Indian Youth Congress Karnataka, administrators of several social‑media accounts and Meta itself. It claims the content portrays Ravi as an alcohol consumer and repeatedly uses the phrase “OT Ravi” to mock him, causing ongoing reputational harm. Ravi seeks a permanent injunction and monetary compensation, arguing that damages cannot be remedied by money alone.
