Bengaluru court protects film ‘The Paradise’ from defamatory social media posts

A Bengaluru civil court has issued an interim injunction to protect the upcoming film ‘The Paradise’, starring actor Nani, from allegedly defamatory and coordinated social media attacks. The order, issued by the XXXV Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, directs social media platforms, including X Corp, to refrain from hosting or disseminating specific derogatory content identified by the producers.

The film’s production company, Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas LLP, filed the application citing substantial financial investments in the production and marketing. The producers argued that since the trailer's release on August 6, 2026, a wave of false and hateful posts had emerged that went beyond fair artistic criticism and were intended to damage the film’s commercial prospects and box office collections.

The court observed that the evidence suggested a targeted effort to diminish the production's commercial value rather than standard audience feedback. While the injunction mandates the removal of specific harmful URLs and links, the judge clarified that the order does not prevent fans or critics from posting genuine reviews or honest opinions about the movie.
