Bengaluru court sentences Al-Hind ISIS conspiracy accused to seven years

A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Bengaluru has sentenced Syed Fasiur Rehaman to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case. Rehaman was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 48,000.

The case, originally registered by the Karnataka Police in January 2020 before being transferred to the NIA, involves an alleged conspiracy to establish an ISIS/Daesh “wilayah”, or province, in the region. Investigators stated that the group, allegedly masterminded by Mehaboob Pasha, planned targeted killings intended to trigger communal riots.

According to the NIA, Rehaman participated in conspiracy meetings and was involved in purchasing equipment, including tents and knives, for jungle-camp training of group members. The agency also noted that members conducted reconnaissance of forested areas in Karnataka to identify potential hideouts and training locations. The NIA has filed three chargesheets against 20 accused individuals and continues to investigate an alleged online handler involved in coordinating the module.
