Bengaluru cyber fraud victims lose over ₹80 lakh in separate scams

A school teacher in Bengaluru and her family lost about ₹45 lakh after investing in a fraudulent online scheme that promised high, guaranteed returns. The couple had already been affected by an earlier cyber fraud, took additional loans and transferred the money to accounts controlled by the scammers. Police have opened an investigation to trace the funds and identify the perpetrators.

In a separate case, an 82‑year‑old woman in Bengaluru was deceived out of ₹34.9 lakh by callers pretending to be Election Commission of India officials conducting voter‑verification checks. The fraudsters obtained her personal and banking details and moved the money before the victim realized the deception. Authorities have registered a case and warned the public against impersonation scams, urging verification through official channels.
