Bengaluru hit by heavy rainfall causing flooding and traffic disruptions
Heavy rainfall has lashed Bengaluru and several districts across Karnataka, with precipitation levels in some areas exceeding those typically recorded in Agumbe. In Bengaluru, the GKVK area recorded significant rainfall, with measurements reaching up to 69.5 mm. Other parts of the city, including Bengaluru City and HAL Airport, also saw substantial downpours.
The intense rain caused localized flooding and waterlogging in various neighborhoods, including Indiranagar, Hennur, and Doddanekundi. Fallen trees and branches were reported in several central city areas, disrupting traffic. Local authorities stated they are working on permanent solutions for recurring waterlogging issues, including coordination with the railway department for underpass improvements.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for the next 48 hours, predicting continued cloudy skies and the possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Bengaluru and surrounding regions. Similar weather patterns are expected across southern inland and coastal Karnataka.
