Bengaluru Urban district receives new road grid notification

The Karnataka government has notified a new road grid for areas within the Bengaluru Urban district that fall outside the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits. Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced the move to facilitate planned infrastructure development, including roads, drinking water, and sewerage, to prevent the unplanned urbanization issues currently affecting the city center.

The new grid aims to connect taluk and hobli centers, major district roads, state highways, the Peripheral Ring Road, and the Satellite Town Ring Road. Some existing corridors, previously only 10 meters wide, have been notified for expansion to widths of 30, 45, or even 90 meters. The implementation of this entire network is expected to take between five and ten years.

To support this expansion, the entire Bengaluru Urban district has been brought under the jurisdiction of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Experts suggest the city's urban footprint could expand from 750 square kilometers to between 1,400 and 1,800 square kilometers. Property owners and developers are advised to leave the earmarked road spaces clear when constructing new houses or layouts.
