Gautam Adani meets Karnataka CM D K Shivakumar in Bengaluru
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani met with Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bengaluru on Sunday. The meeting, which lasted approximately 20 minutes to an hour depending on reports, was described by Shivakumar and the Chief Minister’s Office as a “courtesy call” following Adani’s visit to the Art of Living International Center.
The interaction occurred shortly after Adani Enterprises emerged as the lowest bidder for the proposed 16.75-km Bengaluru tunnel road project, spanning from Hebbal to Silk Board. The group’s bid of Rs 22,267 crore is notably higher than the state government’s initial estimate of Rs 17,698 crore. The project is intended to be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model.
The meeting has drawn political criticism from the BJP. Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka accused the Congress government of a “double standard,” noting that while the party opposes the Adani Group at the national level, it appears to be facilitating the group in Karnataka. The tunnel road project itself has faced opposition from BJP leaders, including MP Tejasvi Surya, who has challenged the project in the Karnataka High Court.
