Bengaluru plans five police commissionerates and 21 new stations
Bengaluru is planning a major restructuring of its police administration, proposing the creation of five commissionerates—Central, North, South, West, and East. These units will operate under a Chief Commissioner of Police and be led by officers of Inspector General of Police (IGP) or Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) rank.
The plan includes the establishment of 21 new police stations, categorized into law and order, cybercrime, and traffic divisions, as well as six women’s police stations. However, the Finance Department has currently approved only 11 of these new stations. Under the new structure, the city would expand from 11 law and order divisions to 14, and from four traffic divisions to five.
Jurisdictional changes will also involve bringing several stations from the Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru South districts under the new commissionerates. For instance, stations such as Sarjapura, Jigani, and Attibele will move under the DCP (Electronics City) division of the Bengaluru South Commissionerate. New stations are also slated for the East and West commissionerates, including Kasturinagar, Kodathi, Andrahalli, and Kadabagere.
