Bengaluru Police Commissionerate to be split into five units
Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has announced a major restructuring of the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate. The existing administration will be reorganized into five separate commissionerates to better manage the city’s expanded population and maintain law and order.
Shivakumar noted that the current policing framework was originally designed for a population of approximately 10 lakh, which is no longer sufficient for the modern metropolis. In addition to the division of the commissionerates, new police stations will be established as required to bolster the police presence.
The plan also focuses on addressing Bengaluru’s significant traffic congestion. The Chief Minister stated that coordination between the traffic police system and the Greater Bengaluru Authority will be strengthened to improve the city’s response to transportation challenges.
