Bengaluru police investigate separate fraud and impersonation scams

Authorities in Bengaluru are investigating two separate fraud cases involving significant financial losses.

In one instance, a man identified as Sandeep Reddy, also known as Deepu, is accused of impersonating a retired Navy official to defraud tourists. Reddy allegedly used fake gunshot wounds to gain trust and claimed connections to high-ranking politicians. He reportedly promised victims confiscated gold and iPhones at discounted rates, including a case where a victim was swindled out of Rs 1.14 lakh. Police are investigating claims that he has targeted multiple individuals by promising meetings with political leaders.

In a separate incident, a 47-year-old technology professional lost Rs 1.9 crore through a fraudulent online trading scheme. The victim was lured by a Facebook advertisement and directed to an investment platform called ‘Proxtrend’, which claimed to be registered in Comoros. After transferring large sums of money under the guidance of an individual posing as an account manager, the victim found he was unable to withdraw his funds, leading to a formal police complaint.
