Bengaluru police seize ₹85.5 lakh and arrest five in kidnapping‑robbery case

Bengaluru police have arrested five suspects in a kidnapping‑robbery that targeted a cash‑transporting vehicle on June 15. The victims, a resident of Thammenahalli and his driver, were carrying ₹74 lakh in the boot of their car when seven assailants intercepted them, threatened them with a knife and beer bottles, and forced them into a secluded area near Nelamangala. The gang stole the ₹74 lakh and extorted an additional ₹35 lakh, taking a total of about ₹1.09 crore before abandoning the victims.

Investigations led to a series of arrests between June 20 and June 22 across Chikkaballapur district, Soladevanahalli, Binnamangala, and Goraguntepalya. Police recovered ₹85.5 lakh in cash, two cars, three mobile phones and a toy pistol from the accused and from several locations tied to the case. The arrests were overseen by Deputy Commissioner of Police D L Nagesh and Assistant Commissioner Ashok M S. On June 24 the five suspects were presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
