Bengaluru ranks second in Asia for AI innovation, joins global top‑10

Bengaluru AI innovation ranking Global Startup Ecosystem Report AI‑native cluster venture funding

Bengaluru has been placed second in Asia for AI‑native startup ecosystems and entered the global top‑10 for performance and R&D, according to the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) 2026. The Karnataka government reported the city is 15th worldwide in the overall Startup Ecosystem Index, with an estimated ecosystem value of USD 152.8 billion.

The report highlights strong early‑stage AI funding, noting that roughly 58 % of India’s AI venture capital flows to Karnataka. From 2021 to 2025 Bengaluru attracted about USD 39 billion in venture capital, ranking among the global top 15 and fourth in Asia. The city’s R&D Engine ranking improved from the global top 30 in 2025 to the top 10 in 2026, reflecting higher patent output and research commercialisation. Officials said the ranking underscores Bengaluru’s growing influence as a DeepTech and AI hub.

Karnataka IT & BT Minister Priyank Kharge said the recognition validates long‑term investments in talent, research, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies, positioning the region to create globally impactful companies.
