Bengaluru Space Expo highlights India’s private space ambitions

The ninth edition of the Bengaluru Space Expo (BSX) 2026 is currently taking place at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, focusing on the commercialization of India’s space sector. Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry in partnership with ISRO, IN-SPACe, and NewSpace India Limited, the event aims to transition the industry from a government-dominated model to a broader ecosystem involving private companies.

During the expo, IN-SPACe Chairman Dr Pawan Goenka addressed the future of the sector, noting that India could potentially build $44 billion in space supplies by 2033, though he raised questions regarding whether market demand will match this supply. Goenka also dismissed media reports concerning the privatization of ISRO, echoing a recent official statement from the agency that such claims are baseless.

Additionally, Union Ministry of Commerce Joint Secretary Manish Chadha highlighted that India currently holds market access agreements with 61 countries. The expo expects to host approximately 250 exhibitors, 12,000 business visitors, and participants from 20 different countries.
